Thornberry Stud

The History

The Thornberry Stud came about in 1979 when we purchased a yearling filly, namely Cwmwyre Samantha. Bought as a companion for a dressage horse we decided that we it might be fun to show her a little bit in hand and as they say the rest is history!

1978 - 2007

As the foundation of the Thornberry Stud it was with great sadness that this wonderful pony passed away in 2007 at the age of 29. We owe her so much, she gave us an enormous amount of enjoyment and pleasure and as a legacy has left us some wonderful daughters and grand-daughters who now form the basis of the stud.

She was Supreme Champion at the Royal Welsh in 1987 and is responsible for the Royal Welsh winners and Champions

Thornberry Royal Gem, Thornberry Demelza, Thornberry Gamekeeper & Thornberry Morwenna

Her line continues in the Stud through her daughters:

Thornberry Morwenna (by Mollegaards Spartacus), Thornberry Love Song (by Aston Love Knot) & Thornberry Samantha (by Eyarth Rio) and her grand daughter Thornberry Catrin (Cwrtycadno Cymro x Thornberry Morwenna)

Website updated March 2013 and more to come! Please visit our other pages to view our ponies and don't forget if you have a Thornberry pony PLEASE GET IN TOUCH so that your news can be added to the site,

2012 saw a return to the showring with our two 3 year old fillies - Thiornberry Arbenig and Thornberry Sioned. Arbenig was Champion first time out at the Wales and Border Counties Show and then exceeded all expectations by being 2nd at the Royal welsh Show! Sioned had just the one outing at South West Ponies where she won the mixed A/B in hand class and then went onto stand reserve Mountain and Moorland Champion, behaving impecably!

2013 - we have 2 foals expected, Morwenna is in foal to a son of our wonderful Thornberry Gamekeeper, namely Jula Secret Keeper and Thornberry Samantha is in foal to Riding Pony Stallion Borderland Aristacrat, sire of so many HOYS winners and Champions.
Pictures will be posted in due course.

Ponies bred at Thornberry continue to be successful both in-hand and under saddle.

We should like to thank all the people that have supported us throughout the years and we look forward to hearing news of ponies that we have both bred and owned.
